Creative reconnaissance

The internet can be used in a lot of ways we’re not used to thinking about. One is for reconnaissance on a run before you get there. Say you’re dispatched to a motor vehicle collision. You might or might not get some information that there’s a truck on fire at that location. So you whip out your iPhone and check your metro area’s online traffic cameras. This is what you see:

Just to be clear, I don’t know what dispatch said when this came out in Houston last night. But I know some dispatch centers that would’ve just dropped this as a truck fire.
