Quickly noted: a spy in our midst

Is this really what we want?  En route to this future we are well on our way to abrogating all personal responsibility and obviating the need for company officers.  This is a lazy approach to managing and leading safety.*

Instead of creating an atmosphere of paranoia and shoulder-watching shouldn’t we instead just train our people to be really good at what they do?  Shouldn’t we only accept excellence from our officers so we can then allow them to use their judgment?  Tattlemails are just lazy supervision.

These electronic Big Brothers attack the leaves of the poison plant.  The root is improper attitudes, bad training, and inadequate professional development.  Strike the root!

*Or maybe the only way to stop a firefighter from doing something is to take away his ability to do it.  Sometimes it sure seems that way.
